West Bay 2022- By Cecilia

Day One, Friday 17th June

The adventure begins!

Travelling from Portland beneath a cloudless sky over a silky blue sea.

Bearing an unusual cargo of Brompton bikes.

Safe Arrival at West Bay!

Overland journey back to portland

Day Two, 18th June- Going Diving!

Dive One: East Tennants Reef

Deadmen’s fingers growing on the seabed among the forest of seafans!

Dogfish, lobster, corkwing wrasse guarding eggs, ray. And more!

(picture thanks to Colin Munro Photography.)

Dive Two: Bay Gitano

Until 1918 it was a steamer ship, but was sunk by a U-Boat on 18th March (35 out of 37 crew escaped). Nowadays it’s a fabulous old favourite dive site: boilers, lots of shipwreck bits, loads of sea life, including a free-swimming conger!

Saturday Night: Bridport Food and Beer festival

Despite the rain, the very British crowd had lots of fun, crowded under the marquee, enjoying food and beer ranging from OK to fine to very nice.

Day Three Sunday 19th June –More diving!

Off Sawtooth Ledges. Loads of sea life peeping out from every rocky crevice. Crayfish, lobsters. Patches of jewel anemones. Clusters of gorgeous, rare sunset coral. And a huge angler fish! (Picture by ReadingSAC).
